Pick two of the following colors and explain what emotion you connect with it and why.

  1. I definitely associate yellow with optimism because it's such a sunny and cheerful color and I agree that peace can be represented by green because it correlates with nature and the outdoors. However, I think these colors can also have negative connotations. For example, red may represent excitement but it also represents blood, fear, and pain. Gray typically represents boredom.

  2. Red has always been the color that reminds me of love and excitement. Roses are red, hearts are usually red and red velvet cake is red (which is something I absolutely love), making red the ultimate color for affection. Green is a color that reminds me of serenity. Trees and plants are green which help calm me down. Blue also does the same for me because I think of the sky and the ocean when I think of the color blue.

  3. When I think of the color green, I think of it as a soothing and calming color. Green is often found in nature, so whenever I see the color green, I associate it with earthy and healthy things. I connect the color red with emotions such as enthusiasm and also anger. Red is a bright color so it can come across as very strong and red also reminds me of anger because that color is often associated with anger in media. (just as a side note, I had written this before I saw Mckay's post above so I didn't copy her!!)

  4. I've always felt that green was a calming and relaxing color. I've actually heard that a green room is supposed to help reduce stress and help you relax and even fall asleep. My bedroom is painted green. Yellow is definitely an optimistic color. I've always heard that yellow makes you happy and that's why so many businesses use it in their logo.

  5. I have always seen blue as a color associated with peacefulness. I usually connect it to either the lake or the ocean, which for me are very relaxing and peaceful. I also associate Blue with sadness. For me I think of Gray as typically a dull color, not a calm color. I associate gray with storm clouds so I also see it as a gloomy color. It's interesting to see how colors can be the same but interpreted in two almost opposite ways

  6. I definitely connect with yellow because it's just so bright and happy, when it appears in contrast to other colors, it definitely jumps out at you. Clearly, our associations with brightness/lightness have influenced our optimism for the color yellow. Because we associate sunshine with one of the signs of a "good day", we tend to associate the color yellow with a good mood and happiness. I think that the color red represents extremely strong emotion, which can be either positive or negative. The color red is used to draw attention to more serious aspects of life, and is associated with emotions like excitement, but more commonly, anger and fury.

  7. I connect the red with excitement because the color is so bright and bold. When you see it around it is one of the colors that really jumps out because it is so noticeably bright. It is hard to be peaceful and calm when you see this color because it is so bright and catches your attention. The orange-yellow represents warmth for me because it reminds me of fire which I associate with being warm during the winter.

  8. The color green has always stood out to me. I feel like it has a very healthy feeling, which is why I am not surprised to see its association with lots of food and outdoor brands. I have always liked the color blue as well. It feels very soothing to me. and I can see how it is associated with strength.

  9. The two colors that stand out to me are red and yellow. The reason i chose red is because i connect red with love. Every time I see red I think of romance and relationship. Valentines day is a day about love and the color of gifts that people get on valentines day are mostly red. The other color i chose was yellow. When i see yellow i think of sunshine. It reminds me of bright sunny days and happiness. It reminds me of happiness because of the Walmart smiley face. Most smiley faces I see in color are yellow.Yellow reminds me of happiness and joy. Red reminds me of love and romance.

  10. I think the colors red and yellow stand out the most for me. The reason why I picked yellow is because it is a vibrant color that is usually associated with brightness and happiness. The reason why I picked red is because it is a bright and bold color that is usually associated with love.

  11. When I see red it really stand out because it is such a bold color. This is why I connect excitement with it. Usually in commercials or in ads that are mainly red, they convey a lot of emotion, whether it's a lot of joy or a lot of fear (as in horror movies).
The other color that I connect with a lot is the grey. I feel like it's a very clean cut color especially in the way that it's used. Most technical or official things use the color grey so as not to sway you in a certain direction and allow you to create your own perceptions of what you see. As shown in the image, most modern technological companies, news, or well-being companies use grey or black to evoke the sense that they have a clear hold on what they're selling because they eliminate the emotional stress behind the product.

  12. When I see the blue i saw the word trust and it for some reason stuck out to me. I can see it to me personally because when people lose my trust i guess it makes me sad and so as a result the blue works for me. I also like realizing how many companies use blue in their logo lowes, AT&T and so on.
Purple caught my eye as well because i think of myself as a more creative different person. I am not the typical person. I am very odd with my music choice and as well as my movie choices. The Color of purple also to me I always remembered it being called the color of royalty and now in modern terms being "gay". I like the fact that I am able to connect with something as uncommon as that.

  13. The colors that drew me where orange and blue. Orange is a very inviting color and that makes me think of welcoming people. Orange always jumps out at me and seems to draw my eye especially in advertisements on TV. Also the companies displayed in the photo above all attempt to invite you to buy their product by welcoming you. I think of blue as calming as opposed to trusting. When I think of blue it reminds me of the ocean which is always very calming.

    ReplyDelete
  14. I associate red with anger and intensity because whenever someone gets mad their face turns red and in cartoons a red face usually shows anger so I think of red with more anger than excitement. I associate gray with bland boringness because there is no color to it and no excitement or emotion in it. It kind of reminds me of a rainy/cloudy, depressing day.

    ReplyDelete
  15. I associate myself with both red and blue. I feel like they both balance each other out. The red is like the rash, defiant, and bold side of me. But then there is the blue which is like trusting, care-free, more calm side.

  16. I think of yellow as being very cheerful and happy. It's very bright like the sun so it reminds me of sunny days and happiness. I see blue as being more calming, probably because its associated with water. I definitely think of red as exciting but I also see it as angry. I think of nature when I see green, which is probably why many of the green companies convey health, earth, and nature.

  17. The colors I best associate with from these are red and grey. When I see red I think of passion and emotion. It always seems to be used for exiting things which really sparks emotions in people. Grey is much more clean-cut color. To me it represents a business-like and calm approach to things. Its a very balanced color.

  18. The two colors that stood out to me the most were green and grey. Green stands out to me becuase it is a color that we are presented daily. We see green through our environment in things such as, grass, trees, vegetables and more. It also reminds me of fresh and organic because of how grocery chains incorporate it into their logos, such as Whole Foods, Publix, and Fresh Market. Grey stands out to me because it is a very formal and traditional color that several businesses use, such as the New York Times or Apple. This color reminds of newspapers and journals because the majority of companies write in black and white. When outside looks grey to me it makes me sad and tired. This is especially true today because of the rain and gloomy clouds.

  19. The colors that stick out most to me are orange and red. Orange representing warmth makes me think of the summer. During the summer there are a lot of orange summer clothing and the sun that is always out is orange so it makes sense to me. The other color that stands out to be is red being a bold color. A lot of things are in red to make them stand out such store signs. It pops out and attracts us to go there. Also red is often the color for love and we are seeing that a lot right now with valentine's coming up. Red is a color that is around us a lot. These are the colors that stand out most to me.

  20. The colors that stuck out to me the most would be the purple and the yellow. The reason they stick out to me is because the yellow seems to catch your eye more than another color and seems to almost always show some happy sunny product that people would be interested in purchasing. The purple stands out because whenever a product is being advertised with a purple logo it just seems like a smart product that could really be used in a helpful way.

  21. I agree with the orange optimist one. Orange makes me happy and think about orange juice, oranges, mornings, and sunshine which all seem very bright in my ming. However, it's not just happy it has to be optimist because yellow in my opinion would be joyful and happy.
I typically associate red, however, with either anger or love depending on the shade of red. If it's darker it seems angrier because it's more like blood and if its lighter it's more like love.

  22. Blue has always stand out to me. Blue has always seemed to be peaceful and calm. When I think of the color blue I think of a sunny blue sky or the water like the ocean or a lake. I all these things have always been relaxing and peaceful to me. Grey to me however as always symbolizing boring because it just seem so dull and not exciting.

    ReplyDelete
  23. The two colors that typically stand out to me are usually orange and green, as they have been my favorite colors since I can remember. In this picture, however, the yellow and grey stood out to me the most. In the picture, on the color yellow, it says the words: "clarity," "warmth," and "optimism." Normally, I would say my level of optimism is a grey or a soft blue at best, but lately (within the past year) I have had a lot going on in my personal life and developed a brighter outlook on things. Although not everything is great, and there is still a lot of pressure from various places, I have a lot of good things in my life as well, and I think I'm getting better at recognizing them and enjoying them. Grey could have stood out to me right now because I am relaxed and content. A lot of people seem to associate grey with being boring, sad, dull, etc but I have always really liked it. Things don't necessarily have to be bright and vibrant for them to be exciting!

  24. I really feel like green and peaceful go together well. Green is very abundant in nature during the spring and summer. Those are also the times of greatest relaxation periods- spring representing new growth and new beginnings with Easter Holiday and summer being summer vacation where a lot of people go on vacations with their families. Another nature connection, the sun is yellow. Numerously, the sun has been used in media, music, and in phrases to represent hope and happiness. "Here Comes the Sun" by the Beatles is the perfect example. The lyrics say, "here comes the sun/ do do do do/ here comes the sun and I say, its alright." The sun is a metaphor for the better situation that is coming. He is seeing the sun which is filling him with hope, keeping him faithful. I also like the purple/pink color being creativity mostly because pink is my favorite color and I like to think of myself as creative. But that one may be a little biased.

  25. My favorite color has always been green. For some reason I've just always been drawn to it. Even my bedroom and bathroom are green. I think I'm drawn to it so much because it's not overpowering. It's soothing and calm but still makes me happy. The other color that sticks out to me the most is yellow. When I think of yellow I think of brightness and sunshine. It makes me feel positive. Also, the color yellow is the first color I notice when I look at this picture.

  26. I feel that grey represents cleanliness (a light grey). White is too blaring in my opinion, while black is too dark and grimy. Grey is a perfect medium between the two. It's a pure neutral, and therefore, I find it clean.

Red is the color of danger. You see red on stop signs and stop lights. It's like a warning color. It's very bold, loud, and in your face. It would make sense to use this color on signs of warning. That's why I think it represents danger.

  27. When I think of the color red, I think of war or violence. This is mainly because the Greek war god "Ares" is known for always wearing the color red. When I think of the color green, I think of plants and growth. This is mostly due to the fact that my dad always told me, "green stuff grows". This was a ploy to get me to eat more vegetables, because I was fascinated with how grants grew and I wanted to also grow fast at a young age. Ej Thurmond

  28. Colors as we see them may remind us of places travelled or things seen. To me, blue symbolizes the ocean on a peaceful day and the sky on a tranquil afternoon of basking in the rays of the sun. Therefore, i associate blue with tranquility and calmness. Blue also is seen in a lot of newer cars and makes them seem fresh and new. Blue also may be seen as innovation. If i switch to orange, i feel passion. Like day time or artistic sunrises, orange is a fantastic complimentary color and can indicate a new natural energy to life. It is bright, looks nice, and highlights different things because it is not a color often found in nature. Tigers are orange indicating fierce but not necessarily hostile. The vibrance lifts my feelings up and inspires me. - Chandler Cook

  29. The colors that are most distinctive to me are red and yellow. I associated red with intense feelings, especially, love. I think of Valentine's Day and hearts and roses. Sometimes, I associate red things with bad things such as blood and violence. Whenever I think of the color yellow, I think happy things such as smiley faces and sunshine and even bananas (which is my favorite kind of fruit.) I think of all good things whereas some colors, I think of good and bad things.

  30. When I see the grey in the picture above it make me think of a lake on a clear full moon winter night. I see a steamy fog floating gently off the lake. There is a pure resonating white snow around the the lake reflecting the moons light with big clear crystals all about the snow around the lake, capturing, reflecting, and resonating the purity of the snow. Meanwhile the lake is capturing the whole scene with the the stary blue night and moon in the sky. I'm not sure why it makes me see this but it does.it is really calming though. The red makes me think of blood. This is probably because there's a good deal of blood that is close to the same red as that in the anime I watch.

  31. I associate orange with peace and happiness. I associate these feelings with orange because orange is usually seen in places that promote cheerfulness and happiness, like Nickelodeon. Also, because countries like Japan really value the color orange. Many of their temples are orange. When I visited the japanese temples, the orange created a welcoming vibe and made you feel happy, cheerful, and peaceful. I associate green with serenity and purity. I feel very peaceful while lying on the beach where the water is a bright sparkling blue. Blue is also the color of the water at the lake where I've taken many peaceful boat rides. Green reminds me of nature. I think of long walks along the Chattahoochee river and through the park with my dog.

I also think that rare is a color that you don't see as often as other colors, and it is mostly always associated with something happy and uplifting.

I always feel most peaceful when I am at the beach or at the lake or on a boat or something. Blue also makes me think of the sky on a clear day which is also relaxing.

  35. I associate red with intensity, both anger and passion. Red roses and hearts represent love but red faces and blood represent anger. The devil is red but so is cupid. I see red as symbolizing the most extreme emotions. I also see blue as representing calmness and peace. Looking up to a blue sky and seeing a beautiful blue ocean calms people and gives people the feeling of peace.

  36. I associate different colors with different emotions. The two main colors are red and pink. When I think of red, I think of anger because people's faces tend to turn red when they are mad. When teachers grade tests and red ink is all over the pages, it can make you mad. With pink, I associate with valentines day and love. Hallmark has commercialized this holiday so that it is represented by pink. - Clay Pfohl

  37. I picture orange as a color of peppiness or attractiveness. Probably because it is one of the brightest and attracts the eye. It seems in these advertisements that its main purpose is to draw your attention towards the product. For instance if you were driving down the highway I would be more likely to divert my attention to a Fanta ad than another. The color green I associate more with kindness and friendliness than orange. It seems to be eco or Earth friendly and that is probably why I believe this. I agree it is shows peace too.
